Landslide
Landslide is the downward movement of soil and mountain rocks under their own weight along the slopes of mountains and valleys, the steep shores of seas and lakes. Landslides are dangerous for human life, so each of us must know the safety rules related to it.
How to be prepared for landslide:
- have an emergency pack handy with a certain amount of food, water, medical supplies, important documents, money, flashlight and warm clothes;
- be aware of the extent of the landslide hazard area;
- be aware of early signs of a landslide windows and doors become jammed in their frames and become challenging to open and close, cracks appear in the inner and outer walls, water seepage occurs on slippery slopes, etc. When you see these signs, inform the relevant authorities and act according to their instructions.
In case of a landslide:
- if leaving the house, turn off gas, electricity and water;
- watch the latest news and follow the recommendations;
- follow the instructions of relevant institutions regarding resettlement;
- if the landslide happened suddenly, leave the house (if it is possible);
- if you are on the upper floor during the landslide and it is not possible to get out to the yard immediately, go upstairs;
- if you are in the open air during the landslide, first throw a stone, a piece of wood or any heavy item in front of you. İf they sink into the ground, change your direction of movement;
- if you cannot run away from the landslide, protect yourself from the impact by covering your head with your hands, moving in the direction of the slide, and always trying to stay over the soil;
- don't panic if you're stuck underground. Because it is possible to rescue the person who was trapped underground even after a few days;
- give sound signals from time to time, especially when there are moments of silence in rescue operations and try not to sleep.
If you are in a vehicle in case of a landslide:
- if you see collapsed pavement, mud, pieces of rock on the road, softened soil along the road as signs of landslide, immediately change your path to another direction;
- do not use bridges and tunnels as they are likely to be damaged by landslides;
- in case of a landslide, remain in the vehicle and wait for the shaking to end without unfastening your seatbelt.
